VISIT TO SEWA SAMAJAM CHILDREN'S HOME, GUINDY
41 students of D.A.V Public School, Chennai stepped into the shoes of community volunteers as part of the SEWA Project. The initially hesitant feet took on the opportunity with higher zeal to share their valuable time with the 61 homeless and needy children residing at Sewa Samajam Children's Home, Pallipattu, Guindy, Chennai, on 04.09.2018.
The Home and the School situated in the same premises caters to both homeless children and also 77 economically backward dayscholars. On behalf of the School, basic supplies, daily needs and essentials for School going students were donated as a goodwill gesture to the children of the home.
The 2-hour visit gave the D.A.Vites a glimpse of the 'Standard' of education, Physical fitness, play and recreational facilities and healthcare of the students. The volunteers had a chance to observe a Spoken English session for classes III and IV in progress conducted by the Chennai Volunteers.
To everyone's surprise, we found the students were adaptable and easy going. Each bubbly child had no qualms as they mumbled the English words and chattered away in Tamil. The delighted squeals and peels of laughter was proof of their enthusiasm for life and all learning.
A roundabout of enthralling games and shows ensued for the students of Std. VI and VII. Each student volunteer made sincere efforts to provide a day of delight and one that remains unforgettable. Interpersonal interactions benefitted both sides as our own students got a chance to revel in the innocent and childish joy that their younger versions did.
The whole event made our time and effort wholly worthwhile and empathise with them in more than one way.
