WINNERS OF FILM FLY EXPERIENCE AUSTRALIA - VIDEO COMPETITION

Our Students participated in preparation of a short video for School students across India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan

This Competition is organised by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, Australian Government. The Competition is open to students between grades 9 to 12.

Video Competition was on the following themes

 a) Creating my own Music

 b) Improving Quality of Life through Humanitarian Engineering and Entrepreneurship

 c) Data Science

 d) UN Sustainability Goals

 e) Improve the lives of those living in Smart Cities and Urban Areas.

Our team comprising of Shreayaa N.S and Varunikhaa. R of Std. XII was declared ‘Winner in the theme "Data Science".  This theme is being sponsored by Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland.

These two students accompanied by a teacher Ms.Rema Devi travelled to the Bond University, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia on 21^st July,  2019  to experience the world class education that Australia offers and returned on 28^th July,  2019.  The winning team is entitled to return economy, flight tickets, accommodation and other travel and living expenses in Australia. 

The faculty members who were responsible for planning the entire week's program was their Faculty Business Director Mr. Makarand Parulkar and their International Regional        Co-ordinator Ms. Sneha Raut.

The team attended a 2 hour lecture session on "Statistical Learning and Regression Models" by Dr.  Steve Stern,  who is a treasure house of information.  He spent nearly one hour with the team explaining the importance of Data Science and it's relationship with Artificial Intelligence,  Machine Learning and Deep Learning.  He taught them how Mathematical models using Polynomials could help them predict many things.  Dr.  Stern is the brain behind the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS)  system of prediction in the game of cricket and that has been adopted by ICC. 

The session with Dr. James Birt, an expert at 3D Printing,  Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality was very informative.  He took the team on a tour of the Architecture Department and explained how 3D Printing and Robotics play an important role in the field of Architecture.

The University has a lot of aboriginal paintings which are of great value and put up all over the campus.  They have developed an App which helps a person get the entire detail about the artist,  the objective and origin of these paintings.  The paintings have to be scanned on to the mobile and with the help of the headset you can get the entire information. This has been developed as a part of the research by a student and guided by Dr. Birt.  This app was launched on 27.07.19 on their Open Day.

The most important take away from this visit was it gave them an insight into where our country stands and the enormous path we need to cover to reach their level.

Research and innovation is a must if we need to be noticed in any arena.

Collaboration with colleagues and sharing of ideas and finding an interconnection between subjects is of utmost importance.

There is a lot to learn.  Learning is never ending.
