OZONE DAY CELEBRATION 2022
‘Save Our Ozone Layer’
In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 16th September, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, and a year later, the first Ozone Day was commemorated on the same date to spread awareness among people about the depletion of Ozone Layer and the measures taken to preserve it. Ozone Day was observed at our School on 20th October, 2022 to remind humanity to enforce collective efforts to safeguard the precious life of all creatures on the Earth.
The programme revolved around the theme of the year - “Montreal Protocol@35: global cooperation protecting life on earth”. The theme thrust on Sustainable Development and the wider impact of the Montreal Protocol.
The onstage programme was hosted by the students of Std. VI. The eventful day commenced with the formal Welcome by Achintya M and was followed by a medley of programmes that emphasized on the efforts taken to decrease ozone depletion.
Rhythmic Mime - A mime on the theme was depicted by the students of Std. VI. The magnificent dramatic performance and brilliant gestures and body movements brought out the theme excellently. The depiction conveyed that, by proper use of resources, humanity can slow down climate change and boost energy efficiency in the ‘Cooling Sector’.
Dance - Drama on Ozone Depletion - was a visual treat by the Students of Std. VII. The portrayal sensitized the audience about the real consequences of ozone depletion and how the protective layer in the Earth’s atmosphere absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the Earth from the sun.
ओज़ोनकीव्यथा (Agony of Ozone), a poem recited by Prajyothi Behera of VIII A, captured the attention of everyone and highlighted the apathetic attitude of people originating in anthropogenic activities. The poem ended with the message of hope for Sustainable Development and ‘Shielding the Shield’.
Tune of Ozone Depletion - Causes and Effects – A Dance portraying the Causes and Effects of the thinning Ozone by Students of Std. VIII gave the spectators room to introspect about their indifferent attitude.
Ozone Song was a musical treat by students of Std. IX. The soulful song drew attention to phytoplanktons, which is vastly affected by the depletion of ozone layer. The song celebrated the sea grass that play a pivotal role in producing a chemical called Dimethyl sulphide, which helps in formation of clouds which keeps the Earth cool.
A formal discourse on the Significance of Ozone Day by the students of Std. X amplified the catastrophic implications of the Environmental issue on human health.
The string of programmes created awareness about the substances that deplete the Ozone Layer and urged the students to be ‘extra caring about the Shield of our Earth’
