The Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E), New Delhi has been taking up numerous initiatives to generate curiosity and develop scientific attitude amongst young learners of Std. VI-XI with an aim to create, innovate and invent. This note worthy endeavour of C.B.S.E enables industrious, young investigators to use Science and Technology to improve the Standard of Living of the Society.

The First level of this Annual Event- Regional Level was conducted at various venues Region-wise, Pan India.

 D.A.V. Public School, Velachery, Chennai hosted the C.B.S.E Regional Level Science Exhibition / Fair 2019-20 on 29th and 30th November 2019 at its School premises.

69 Schools from Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu participated in this event. 119 Exhibits and 218 promising investigators presented original and innovative research based projects constructed on their scientific knowledge and experience in collaboration with their Subject Mentors.

This year the Central theme and the thrust is on “Science And Technology  For  Sustainable  Development With A Thrust On Water Conservation”,  while the sub themes included  Sustainable Agricultural Practices, Cleanliness and Health, Resource Management, Industrial Development, Future Transport and Communication, Educational Games and Mathematical Modelling And Others.

The Venue Organisers, Team DAVPS left no stone unturned to make every possible arrangement for the smooth conduct of this phenomenal event. The School also extended an invitation to the parents, students and neighbouring schools to visit the Exhibition.

The Inaugural Ceremony was held on 29th November, 2019. Shri. P. Ramesh, Assistant Secretary, C.B.S.E. Regional Office, Chennai, presided over the Formal Ceremony. In his address he said, C.B.S.E is moving mountains to encourage “Students to Expand their horizons of learning, Explore novel dimensions of application and Execute innovative technologies through their experiences and perspective”.

A resounding Carnatic musical rendition of the Ishwar Stuthi Upasana Mantra and a magical Odissi dance performance marked the Inaugural Ceremony.

The Formal Cutting of Ribbon left a stirring message which read- ‘Let’s cut down the wastage of water’.

Eminent Judges from various Science Disciplines spent two days inspecting and   critically gauging the innovative projects. The  illustrious Panelists comprising of Dr. Pravakar Mishra, Scientist- F, National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India,  Dr. B. Suresh Subramonian, Professor, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai,   Dr. Vijaya Ravichandran,  and  Dr. Basantha Kumar Jena, both Scientist – F, from National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai, Dr. Prita Nair, Professor, Department of Physics, SSN College of Engineering, Chennai and Mr. Sundar Swaminathan  Senior Manager, Software Development and proponent of Organic Farming  posed several probing questions and encouraged the participants to deliberate on the future scope of the innovations .

The first round of judgement concluded on the first day and shortlisted exhibits under all the sub- themes for selection on day 2 to the National Level Science Exhibition that will be held in December/ January.

The Valedictory Ceremony was presided over by Dr. Venkat Manohar, Director, Indian Institute of Chromatography and Spectrometry (IICMS), Chennai.  In his Keynote Address he said “The future of Science is the Evolution of Mathematics to Health Care and added that each paper presentation or thesis is not the end but the introduction to the next research.” He congratulated the Organisers for hosting the Mega Event with perfection and excellence.

The Results of the Regional Level Science Exhibition / Fair was declared during the Valedictory Function.  The Teams were presented with ‘Certificate of Merit’  by the Chief Guest under each sub-theme.

 The Two Day eventcame with a torrent of indigenous designs and devices using eco friendly materials and effective techniques for Environment Conservation and Loads of  learning  for Science aspirants.
