UN DAY CELEBRATION
United Nations (UN) Day marks the anniversary of the entry of the United Nations in 1945 of the UN Charter. It was observed at our School on 9th November, 2019 with great fervor.
The programme started with a panel discussion on the topic, 'Year of the Indigenous Languages', which is also the theme of the year-2019. The panel was formulated by the 'members' of the Executive Board of UNESCO, Permanent Delegate of India to UNESCO, the Director General of UNESCO, an Anthropologist and a Linguist. Each speaker deliberated about the status of various languages in the world and India and highlighted the steps taken by the Government to preserve 'endangered languages'.
It was followed by an interview session with the 'Indian Delegate' at the UNEP. India’s role in environment protection was analyzed deeply during the session.
The cynosure of the Celebration was the classic rendition of Late M.S. Subbulakshmi at the U.N. General Assembly in 1966 'Maithreem Bajatha' rendered melodiously by Sri Smrithi in accompaniment on the 'Veena' by Charulatha and 'Mridangam' by Sreekanth. G, all from Std. VIII. The mesmerizing music orchestrated to perfection left the audience spellbound.
The Celebration ignited the minds of the eloquent 'speakers' and avid 'readers' as they discovered that knowledge of world affairs is so crucial for human rights and dignity and development.
Student community enjoyed the entertaining as well as informative programme.
