WORKSHOP FOR GIRLS ON HEALTH AND SANITATION

A workshop on ‘Health and Hygiene’ was conducted for the students of Std. IX (girls) by Dr.Sindhu, M.D. (Obstetrician & Gynaecologist), Prashanth Hospital, Velachery, Chennai on 14.08.2019. The girls were briefed on the onset of adolescence and the physical and emotional changes associated with it. The doctor explained and emphasized the importance of adhering to a healthy diet and performing physical exercise to remain fit. The students were advised to avoid consuming junk food and following a sedentary lifestyle as it would lead to harmful medical conditions like menstrual disorder, diabetes and hypertension at an early age. The importance of drinking 4-5 litres of water a day for healthy metabolism was reiterated. The girls were advised to maintain proper hygiene during menstruation as they are prone to infections at such times due to low immunity.

The session concluded with an interactive session with Dr. Sindhu on various physiological and psychological issues faced by adolescent girls. The session proved to be highly educative and informative.
