WORKSHOP ON CHILDHOOD DEPRESSION - IDENTIFICATION, PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION

A Workshop on "Childhood Depression - Identification, Prevention and Intervention" was cascaded to the teachers of Std. II to XII on 27.07.2019.

The aim of the workshop was to take up counselling initiatives and strengthen schools in planning strategies and practices to tackle glooming problems like depression.

The session focussed on the essential traits of an individual who has good mental health and reinforced that people who cope with normal levels of stress are the ones who work towards self actualisation and desire to contribute to the society.

The symptoms and method of identifying children with depression was explained emphasising that most cases of depression occur in school children.

The session reiterated the crucial role played by parents and teachers to help children in developing Emotional Quotient and not succumbing to their broken dreams and mood swings.

The teachers were encouraged to help the child who exhibits depression symptoms by seeking immediate intervention of a counsellor or psychologist.

The programme concluded with an interactive session on the need for developing Life Skills in children to enable them to face the challenges of life with positivity.
