ANNUAL SPORTS DAY  2024-25

The Annual Sports Meet 2024-25 of D.A.V. Public School, Velachery, Chennai was hosted on 30 August, 2024 at Pavilion Ground, YMCA, Nandanam, Chennai- 35.

The Chief Guest, Mr. S. Prasanna Venkatesh, Assistant Manager, Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai and World Class Basketball Champion graced the Opening Ceremony. He took the salute of the March Past along with the Regional Officer, Mrs. Minoo Aggarwal and Principal, Ms Sujatha M.

In his short address, he congratulated the school for giving students ample opportunities to excel in sports. He urged the students to participate in as many sports events as possible to be at their best.

The Flamboyant March Past by the four houses - Vasant, Greeshma, Sharad and Hemant was a feast to the eye.

The lighting of the ceremonial Olympic Torch was led by Kavin Kumar, Cricket player for Fourth Division League in TNCA and joined by Nivedita Aravind, National Level Silambam Champion,  Football Champions, Lohit S, Rayyan Mirza and Sai Nithin Garuda,

Aasitha K, all rounder in Cricket,  Abirami. J, Swimming Champion, Basketball Champion, Pranav Ananth  and H.G. Pragnya, International Chess Champion.

The Oath Taking Ceremony was led by the Sports Captain, Hashvanth M and he was joined by the Four House Captains.

A spectacular show of the Tamil Folk Art - Pinnal Kolattam (Maypole Dance) and Kolattam by 210 students demonstrated the rhythm and beauty of the ‘stick dance’. While 30 performers of Std VII created intricate patterns with bright yellow and green ribbons that portrayed the finesse of the Maypole Dance, 180 students created a musical symphony with sticks.

‘Silambattam’ was a thorough display of ‘control while performing fluid movements’. The Martial artists of Std. I to XII demonstrated the art of Combat. Combat techniques using different properties, like, club, sword, whip, and others were a show stealer.

The Finalists of the short distance events and the middle distance events participated and contested for the Individual Championship. 28 events including an Obstacle Race for Std IV (Boys and Girls) brought a lot of excitement to the spectators.

The Closing Ceremony was presided over by Ms. Similal Singh, Deputy Chief Ticket Inspector, Southern Railway and Indian National Volleyball player.

Ms Similal Singh addressed the students and motivated them to work hard and underlined the truth that losing alone can make one know the true worth of winning. She added that while winners relax after a win, the runners-up formulate new strategies to never come second. The inspiring life lesson  of Arunima Sinha narrated by the Guest was indeed thought provoking.

Ms Similal Singh gave away the Prizes to the Winners of the events conducted on the Sports Day and also decorated the Individual Champions in the Eight Categories.

The Overall Championship Trophy for the Academic Year 2024-25 was lifted by Greeshma House.
