Workshop on AIASC - 2017

All India Asteroid Search Campaign (AIASC) is one of the most prominent and much awaited projects and is conducted in collaboration with International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC, Texas, USA). It aims in locating an asteroid in space, by providing training to the student community. Nearly, 150 schools are participating in this event from all over India. In Chennai, six schools have enrolled for the campaign and our School is one among them.

The 'AIASC 2017 workshop' was conducted in our school by the SPACE Organisation on 3rd July, 2017 between 9.30 a.m and 1.45 p.m. Aishwarya Kopika of IX - C and Prithiviraj of XI - D participated in the workshop. The hunt for asteroids by the students will be from 15th July, 2017 to 15th August, 2017. The students and the teacher co-ordinators from the six schools were welcomed by our beloved Principal Mrs. Minoo Aggarwal, during the inaugural session. In her speech, she motivated the students to come up with many innovative ideas and also encouraged the younger generation to participate actively in all Science-related activities pace with the technology advancement.

The workshop included the installation and registration of the software "Astrometrica" followed by the training and practice session.  The magical fingers played through the keys of the laptops to locate the asteroids.

During the closing ceremony, our teacher co-ordinator Mrs. Rema Devi shared a few thoughts with the participants and handed over the participation certificates to the students and the teacher co-ordinators.

Asteroid Day Celebration

"Asteroid Day 2017" was celebrated in our school on 30th June, 2017 by SPACE organisation for the Astronomy Club members. The two groups "KRITHIKA" and "ROHINI" participated in the event. An audio-visual footage on "Asteroids" was displayed for the students followed by a quiz programme. The students won prizes for their brisk answering of the questions.
