INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATIONS
5th International Yoga Day was observed at D.A.V. Public School, Chennai on 21st June, 2019. More than 1200 students participated in the Special Celebration that thrust on the Theme of the Year - 'Climate Action'.
The Programme commenced with the lighting of the lamp by the Founder Principal, Mrs. Minoo Aggarwal along with chanting of slokas on Yoga.
A Sneak-peak into the history of Yoga was given by Raghav Suresh of Std.VIII. He delved into the 'Science of Yoga' and added that this fitness regimen enjoys Universal acclaim.
Several Asanas were performed by the students of Std. VI - X in a medley of formations that added charm to the fitness. The young yogis made Human Formation of Sun, Tree and Smiley, to highlight the theme of the year.
Chandranamaskar was demonstrated by the Yoga Guru, Mr. Srinivasan. M and was followed by Suryanamaskar and Rhythmic Yoga. The Yoga Protocol reiterated the innumerable benefits of Yogasana when performed everyday. It was followed by mass participation in Pranayama.
The Oath 'Sankalpa' was administered by the D.A.V. family members in unison and gave assurance to themselves 'to practice Yoga and lead a healthy and happy life'.
The Principal also performed Bhadrasana, Vakrasana and other asanas which highly motivated the students. In her address to the students, she emphasised that regular practice of yoga and devoting at least 10 minutes a day helps to improve flexibility, concentration and bring about a positive difference in the person who practises regularly.
M. Sanjith of Std. VIII deeply inspired by 'The International Yoga Logo' replicated it through his artistic skills.
