Matribhasha Diwas (Mother Tongue Day) was  celebrated in the school  recently as part of the 'International Mother Language Day' declared by UNESCO. The endeavour aimed to promote the dissemination of mother tongues and create awareness about the linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world.

The programme commenced with the song 'Tamizh Thai Vazhthu' , an Invocation to Mother  Tongue, Tamil, the State song of Tamil Nadu. This was followed by speech delivered by the students of STD.VIII which  highlighted the special characteristics of Tamil language.

A Tamil skit on 'Thenali Raman', poet known for his wit and humour was beautifully portrayed  by the students of STD. VIII with effective voice modulation and expression.

Various literary and creative activities including Elocution, Debate, Essay Writing, Singing, Painting and Drawing were conducted in Tamil and Hindi for the Students of STD. VIII that drew attention to  the linguistic diversity and cultural wealth of India.

India being a multilingual society, the celebration encouraged learning and usage of languages other than one's own mother tongue and inspired solidarity  based on understanding and tolerance.
