The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), an apex integrity institution of the country, in its endeavour to promote transparency, accountability and integrity in public life, has been declaring the observance of Vigilance Awareness Week every year to encourage the fight against corruption. This year the Vigilance Awareness Week was observed from 28th October, 2019 to 2nd November, 2019 at various schools, colleges and all public and Government offices on the theme 'Integrity - A way of Life'.

For inculcating greater awareness on Vigilance in public life, our School in collaboration with  Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation  India Limited (NLC) conducted a volley of competitions for students of Classes I to X to ensure that ethical values are ingrained permanently in the minds of the younger generation.

Invitations were sent out to 28 schools in the vicinity of  Velachery, Adyar, Guindy, Saidapet and Sembium. 12 schools eagerly accepted our invitation and sent in their Registrations.  600 students participated in the wide array of competitions. 115 students won prizes in various events.

The students of Std. I to X were categorized into Four Segments of classes I & II , III – V, VI & VII and VIII – X and contested in various Oratorical and Performing Arts competitions on the theme – “Integrity – A Way of Life”.

Aathichoodi and Thirukural Recitation were compulsory events. While Fancy Dress and Colouring fascinated the young students of  Std I and II, Elocution, Poetry Recitation and  Essay Writing  brought out the best in the contestants of Std III-V.

 The students of Std VI- X earnestly participated in Poster Making, Panel Discussion, Debate, Slogan Writing, Collage, Group Song, Cartoon Designing and Quiz on ‘Fundamental Rights and Duties’.

Each activity generated healthy discussions, interactions and thoughtful expressions on 'Moral Values, Ethics and Good Governance practices'.

The overwhelming participation of the tiny tots in Fancy Dress and Colouring to the most eloquent Debates, Elocution and Essay Writing had the judges' Panel critically gauging the Best and many a time finding it a challenge  to decide the finalists and the coveted winners.

The judges – renowned connoisseurs from different walks of life appreciated the whole hearted and enthusiastic participation of the contestants from all the schools.

The Best Entries of some of the creative students were exhibited on the Display boards.

Special certificates were designed by the Host School for both the winners and EVERY single participant.

The week  long observance encouraged students to participate in activities and greatly sensitized them on the essential life lessons to be a dutiful citizen of India.

A string of events were also conducted for the students of the Host School. Thought provoking slogans, posters and comic strips designed by the students of IX and X stressing on the need to promote integrity in one’s life and achieve a corruption free society dotted the backdrop.

A melodious Hindi Song and Villupattu in Tamil, highlighted the Values of Honesty and Integrity and threw light on the significance of leading a life of righteousness. A Panel Discussion by the students of VIII to X emphasised the importance of being vigilant and guarding one’s mind from negative thoughts. The ‘Integrity Pledge’ was administered for students and staff.

The celebrations throughout the week encouraged students to uphold the highest standard of integrity and fight the evil of Corruption.
