A VISIT TO DAKSHIN CHITRA - A PICTURE OF THE SOUTH

"Crucial to education is hands-on involvement. Showing, not just telling, through real experiments and field trips and not just virtual reality."  - Martin Reese

Field trips endeavour to provide students an opportunity to strengthen their bonds with their classmates, experience a new environment and enjoy a day away from the classroom.

175 students of Class VIII accompanied by the teachers, visited Dakshin Chitra on 18th August, 2018. They were awestruck by the realistic models of the ancient houses and village set up at the premises and thrilled to know that the traditional homes from different regions of South India have been dismantled and relocated at the heritage site. Students explored 18 heritage houses and ambled along recreated streetscapes. They spent a lot of time interacting with various artisans including weavers and potters and were amazed at the magical skill the potters displayed in creating beautiful work of art with clay.

A group of artisans entertained the students by performing various Kerala folk dance forms as part of Onam Celebrations, amidst thunderous applause from the students, who did not miss shaking a leg with the original performers.

The entire group headed for yet another rare opportunity, 'bullock cart ride' which they felt was too short but thoroughly enjoyable. It was followed by a Magic Show and a Puppet Show. Students were excited when they were given a chance to participate in the mesmerising Magic Show.

The students savoured their lunch amidst the scenic surroundings before they left for School. It was an enriching experience as the students spent the day observing, chatting and learning more about each other. Undoubtedly, they had the most beautiful memories etched in their minds.
